Child Internet Protection Act has been enforced by the FCC since 2001.

Basically, we are supposed to keep kids from things that are bad and the bad people away from the kids and their information. Schools have been kids safe for decades so this is not really a new task.

The FCC put out a short version of their expectations in 2009 (see the PDF) with more detailed information available from there.

This is the main reason for filtering internet traffic into our schools.

The "teeth" in the act come from technology funding. We will not qualify for e-rate funding if we don't have policies in place.
